Freedom Sunday

In 2016, IJM started a brand new worldwide campaign to engage the global church in the fight to end slavery.

My role as the writer on this project was to introduce Freedom Sunday as an IJM campaign exclusively designed for churches. My goal was to make sure the primary campaign language read like a rally cry for Christians and church members across the country and the world. We built several bold pieces of collateral that our church mobilization teams could send to pastors and congregations to get them excited to sign up without being intimidated by the prospect of preaching about something as complicated as modern slavery.

The first year, we had over 500 churches across the US host a Freedom Sunday event at their church. In 2017, nearly 3,000 churches in 16 countries hosted a Freedom Sunday. And after just a few years of promotion, the event continues to grow with more 18,000 churches in 43 countries have participated.
